Do you frequently have groups contacting your organization for volunteer projects? Maybe you have a big project or special event that requires a group of volunteers? Or you would like to engage a group of skills-based volunteers at your organization? This interactive class will guide you through the important steps of planning and organizing a volunteer group to ensure that everyone has a meaningful volunteer experience. It will highlight best practices in developing a group volunteer project, working with a group volunteer leader as well as coordinating a project’s day of logistics.

Instructor Alexandra Brownfield applies her volunteer management expertise, industry experience, and steadfast energy to advise organizations on building effective volunteer programs. A graduate of Saint Louis University’s School of Social Work, Alexandra began her volunteer management career at United Way of Greater St. Louis’ Volunteer Center. In St. Louis, she led the region’s effort to develop STLVolunteer, a bi-state volunteer management platform that connects volunteers to meaningful opportunities at community organizations.

From her experience in St. Louis, Alexandra went on to become the founding Chief Executive Officer of Volunteer East Tennessee headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. At Volunteer East Tennessee, she had the amazing opportunity to lead the region’s first Volunteer Center, which equipped hundreds of organizations with the tools needed to successfully engage volunteers. She also cultivated impactful community partnerships and connected thousands of volunteers to drive community change throughout East Tennessee.

Today, Alexandra is a consultant for national nonprofits and corporations, where she specializes in strategic volunteer engagement, volunteer management technology and disaster recovery. She currently resides in the greater Atlanta region where she enjoys volunteering as well as spending time with her husband and three children.

This class qualifies for four hours toward the noncredit Chancellor’s Certificate in Volunteer Management. This certificate is a partnership between the UMSL NPML program, and the Metropolitan Volunteer Management Association (MVMA). In order to obtain this noncredit chancellor’s certificate, individuals must enroll in, and complete, 16 or more hours of training in classes and/or events that are produced as part of the collaboration between MVMA and the NPML program.
